Bonfire at Allison's house was kind of filled with bad luck last night. It was supposed to be something really fun before Alyssa left for her study abroad in Greece. Then, Allison and Alyssa ended up having to go with Jessica to take Ilene to the hospital. She was nauseous, running a high fever, had intense lower back pain, and was feeling tingling up and down her legs. After Ilene was admitted to the hospital, Allison and Alyssa came back. Allison (who is a nursing student) was in a state of rage at the treatment they had gotten at the hospital, which apparently involved leaving Ilene rolling in pain on the waiting room floor, for over an hour, after she had initially been examined and was waiting to be admitted. From what I heard today, they then pumped her full of antibiotics and sent her home. I hope she's doing better today because she had all of us worried.

I found out this morning that Kristi will not be living with the rest of us next year. She decided that moving back to Alabama would be best for her current mental state, while she's trying to figure out what to do with her future. She kind of had a breakdown after graduation, so I think that this is probably a good idea for her, even though we'll miss her. I'm guessing that Alie will be taking her place in the house next school year, instread of just moving in for the summer.

And now, today I keep thinking about my future and what I'm going to do. It seems that all the adults and even some of my friends keep talking about recently is how by this time next year I'll have graduated. And honestly, that prospect terrifies me. As to what I'm going to do after graduation, I have a plan or two, but I'm still terrified about things not working out. I should stop thinking about it because it's just making me more upset right now.

All of these combined factors have not made today particularly pleasant so far. I'm going to go try and find something to read or watch for distraction purposes.

So, today's latest exciting news is that tomorrow's classes have been canceled because of the impending typhoon. It's scheduled to hit Tokyo tomorrow morning. I'm glad to have a day off, but am slightly worried about this whole typhoon thing.

I meant to update the other day, but I forgot. I wanted to talk about the fun stuff I did on Sunday. I spent the day with [livejournal.com profile] meepalicious and Greta. Our first stop was the Pokemon Center in Hamamatsucho, which made my inner-child quite happy. So much adorable Pokemon stuff! I picked up a cute Jirachi plushie there. After Pokemon time, we made our way to Akihabara. In case you are not familiar with Akihabara it's pretty much known for two things: electronics, and the otaku subculture that has sprung up around the city. It was quite the interesting experience. Akihabara was quite noisy and flashy. As we were walking down the street, there were girls in maid costumes handing out flyers advertising the local maid cafes. I guess one of the reasons that I wasn't as crazy about Akihabara is that it's more male oriented. There was definitely an abundance of merchandise featuring half naked (or mostly naked) female anime characters. And in certain stores we were actually the only girls present. It kind of weirded me out. Some stores actually had certain floors marked as "ladies' floors", which were pretty much the only sections of the stores with female-oriented merchandise. The only times I actually felt really comfortable in Akihabara were on the ladies' floors and when we were in the Animate (because it was filled with people of both genders). I definitely prefer Ikebukuro (and Otome Road, which is fangirl territory) to Akihabara.

I also wanted to mention the interesting conversation I had with my host mother the other night. She said that she was jealous of me because I'm American. She said that in her next life she wants to be American or European, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She said that the Japanese are boring because they only have dark hair and dark eyes. She also said that Japan isn't that interesting because everyone in Japan is the same nationality. I thought this was an extremely interesting conversation. I know that Japan has been fascinated with the West for quite some time, but I didn't expect my host mother to admit to it so openly. The conversation gave me a lot to think about. I'm having trouble properly articulating all my thoughts on it though. ^_^; It could be because I'm tired.

I'm going to go to bed soon and hope that the weather won't be extremely horrible tomorrow. I'll keep you updated.

I went to hang out at Allison's dorm last night, and I met some of the girls that live on her floor. They all either bored, or annoyed me. This just reinforced my conclusion that I really cannot relate to "normal" girls. When I say normal girls, I'm referring to the kind of girls that only seem to care about things such as make-up, clothes, and boys. They are so boring and I just don't care about socializing with them. I always feel like I have nothing in common with them, because my scope of interests is way different than theirs. ^_^; I'll take my geeky fandom girls anyday.

I'm rediscovering how much I love the manga Kaze Hikaru. The manga is historical fiction about the Shinsengumi in pre-Meiji Japan. The main character is a girl, who disguises herself as a boy in order to join the Shinsengumi. She's pretty awesome. Once she joins the Shinsengumi, she's then taken under the wing of Okita Soji (who is so adorable in this manga). I really enjoy Kaze Hikaru because I find the Shinsengumi to be very interesting.
