Happy Halloween, darlings!

I really do miss celebrating a proper Halloween with all the costumes, candy, and parties. Japan celebrates on a small scale, but it's not the same. Plans to go to actual Halloween parties this year were thwarted by slight colds and work schedules.

I did do a little bit of Halloween celebrating on Saturday with my friends though. I met up in Shinjuku with Kaille, Leslie, and Anna. We'd decided to dress-up a bit for some early Halloween fun. I didn't have a proper costume, but I wore my h.NAOTO Dark Red Rum shirt, which I think quite fit the Halloween festivities. (I knew I'd eventually find the right occasion to wear it!) Kaille, Leslie, and I decided to do purikura in our outfits.

Trick or Treat~ )

After that, we went back to Leslie and Anna's new apartment for a little housewarming party. Greta and Erica arrived after they were finished with work. Leslie and Anne made stirfry for dinner and then we ate a bunch of imported candy and junk food. It was fun! I wish that we could've hung out for a bit longer, but a few people had work the next day.

Now, I'm going to continue burrowing under blankets. Over the past week or two it's definitely cooled off. The weather isn't bad during the day, but it's been getting a bit chilly at night. Since my apartment (and every other building in Japan) is poorly insulated, this means that I've been piling blankets on my bed and layering my pajamas. I'm not going to start using the heat until it gets colder though because it's so expensive. ヘ( ̄ ̄;ヘ)

Happy Halloween, everyone! It doesn't quite feel like Halloween to me. Probably because I didn't have a Halloween costume this year and I haven't eaten nearly enough chocolate. I miss American Halloween traditions.

On Saturday night, Eri and I got together in Ikebukuro to celebrate Halloween. First we took Halloween purikura. One of the game centers had costumes that you could rent free of charge to take purikura in. Their selection was a little picked over when we went, but Eri wore a black cat costume and I wore a Little Red Riding Hood costume.

Purikura )

After purikura, we had dinner at Lockup. We figured that a haunted prison themed izakaya fit in quite well with the Halloween theme. Eri had never been to Lockup before, so she had a good time. She liked the theme and when the monsters ran through the resturant. Both of us shared lots of yummy food~

Lockup )

I had originally planned on watching Rocky Horror tonight in the spirit of Halloween, but I had a couple of things to do and now I'm a bit too tired. Oh well. Watching it by yourself isn't nearly as good as going to a midnight showing anyways.

Halloween weekend was a good time! We wanted to make it awesome because it was Holly's first Halloween. The weekend was kicked off when I got home from class on Friday. I walked in the door and Alie jumped a mile in the air. She had been playing Silent Hill 2 and was super jumpy because of it, lol. [livejournal.com profile] yaexrae arrived on Friday night. We then commenced Halloween geekery by carving the Gurren Brigade logo into our pumpkin. It looked pretty awesome.

On Saturday we got all dressed up in our costumes. I opted for the fishnets and cute punk dress route because we were going to Rocky Horror. After dressing up, we had a hurried dinner at Friday's (where we got free appetizers for being in costume). Then it was onto the 8 PM show of Rocky Horror. Poor Holly couldn't make it to Rocky Horror because her job at the costume store kept her late. Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] yaexrae and Cat opted to go pick her up and hang out with her while the rest of us were at the show. We were slightly late for the beginning of the show (because it took forever to get our dinner and bill), but got there before it was time for the Time Warp, which is what really matters. Rocky Horror was fun, but the midnight show we went to a couple years back had a better, more interactive crowd. (I have concluded that midnight showings of Rocky Horror are the only way to go.) After Rocky Horror, Greta, Alie, and I made our way to the zombie walk. Alie was dressed as a Silent Hill nurse, but Greta and I weren't zombified, so Alie then proceeded to cover our faces with zombie make-up. I looked kind of like a zombie whore at that point, lol. The walk was pretty cool. There had to have been at least a hundred people there. When it was time to begin, we proceeded to zombie walk/stumble our way down Kirkwood (the main street of downtown Bloomington). There were a lot of amused and weirded out onlookers. The best point was when a "hazmat team" showed up in hazmat suits with bullhorns. They told us they wanted to help us and tried to quarantine us with caution tape, which we broke through. After the zombie walk broke up, we met up with [livejournal.com profile] yaexrae, Cat, and Holly. Holly made a darling Madame Red. She still really wanted to go to Rocky Horror, so for one glorious moment we almost got to go to the midnight showing of Rocky Horror as well. We found out that the tickets were already sold out when we got there though. So, we went to the end of the Collins Halloween dance with [livejournal.com profile] immelmanturn. And afterwords, we made our way back to her apartment, where she fed us delicious food. I also learned that Jello shots are more difficult to eat than one might think.

On Sunday, we put our costumes back on. I opted to wear my Axel cosplay on Halloween. We wandered around outside for a bit and trick-or-treated at Zury's house. We went to Kirkwood for a bit, but most people were being lame and not wearing costumes because it was a Sunday night. Kirkwood was pretty dead, so we went back home and watched Nightmare Before Christmas. It was a nice end to the weekend.

After the past few weeks yesterday was the most fun I've had in a while. I always love Halloween. The costumes and the candy. And this year I got to help my Japanese friend celebrate her first Halloween, so my friends and I decided to go out. We put on our costumes (I was a pirate), and went to the midnight showing of Rocky Horror. It was my first time seeing it, and it was crazy, but so much fun!

P.S. This is going to be my icon until after election day.

Happy Halloween everyone!

I'm currently sick. Blagh. Went to the Health Center yesterday. They said I have strep throat. That doesn't really surprise me since I used to get it all the time.

I went to a few Halloween parties last week. My costume was Elizabeth from Pirates of the Caribbean (her pirate outfit, not a foofy dress). The first was the dorm Halloween party and it was really lame. [personal profile] stellawind and I left early and went to hang out with [personal profile] yangwarrior while she worked at the desk. I went to the second party with Allison and Alyssa. It was, unfortunately, also kind of lame. But, we did get pizza at Mother Bear's beforehand and that made up for it. It was sooo yummy. The third party was on Saturday night. It was the Asian Halloween party thrown by a few of the Asian student organizations on campus. I went with [personal profile] stellawind and [personal profile] immelmanturn. It was held at a local Chinese resturant and it required a bit of a walk to get there. When we finally did get there the party hadn't realy gotten going yet, so we went across the street for food at Steak & Shake. Then we went back to the party. We sang karaoke and joined the drunk Asians in their dancing. I also saw some people I know from JCC there. I had an awkward/flattering moment when one of the guys I had been talking to told me I was absolutely gorgeous and asked me out on a date. I turned him down (nicely), because I'm not really looking for a date right now. (I still need to figure out where things stand with Jared right now. Will probably post about that at a later date.) I ended up having the most fun at the Asian Halloween party though. We left the party after 2 AM and went back to mine & [personal profile] stellawind's dorm room, where we feel asleep watching Doctor Who, which, by the way, is an awesome show.

On Saturday I went to Meghan's Halloween party (well, it was actually her family's Halloween party). It was a costume party. Mostly we just hung out and ate food, while watching the tipsy adults. Drunk people can be so funny! It's especially funny when they're all in costumes.

Then yesterday I went trick-or-treating with my friends. Yes, we still go trick-or-treating. This was our last year doing it. We went around until it started getting too cold. I got a pretty good amount of candy. Mmm candy. Then we made stops at Leyla's house and Jessie's house. After that we went out to eat at Olive Garden, in our costumes. Now, that was fun!
