Time for my ACen con report!

Though it would have been awesome to have more of the DLS (my usual cosplay group) there, ACen was pretty fantastic this year! I had a great time cosplaying Kuranosuke and meeting Yoshiki. Sadly, this ACen will be my last con for a while. I'll miss going to American cons while I'm in Japan! There will always be more to go to when I get back though, so I'm not too sad.

I'm gearing up for ACen this week! On Sunday, I sewed Kuranosuke's shorts. I didn't have a pattern, so I made my own with some helpful tips from online. The shorts were fairly easy to make and I think they turned out pretty well. Yesterday, I made Kuranosuke's belt out of pink ribbon. This was actually a bit more work than I was anticipating because, in order for it to look nice, I had to make the bow separately and attach it to the belt. Today, I cut the bangs on Kuranosuke's wig. I'm thinking that I should probably get to the store before the con and buy some Motions Oil Sheen Spray or Mane n' Tail Detangler, both of which I've heard work great on getting tangles out of/preventing new tangles from forming in wigs. I can already tell that this wig is gonna tangle like a bitch and be a mess by the end of the con because it's long and curly.

ACen doesn't start until Friday, but I'm actually going to be leaving for it on Thursday. Sarah reserved the hotel room for three nights (luckily, it's going to be really cheap because we have so many people staying in the room), and she'll be picking up me and Kala on her way to the con. I'm getting pretty excited! I checked online today and the schedule has been posted. Even though I usually like to go, I think I might skip the Masquerade this year because it conflicts with Yoshiki's panel and autograph session. And really, how many other chances am I going to have to possibly meet Yoshiki?

Been a bit of a busy bee this week, but I've finally got some time to update.

Last weekend was quite nice. [livejournal.com profile] stellawind came to visit and we pretty much had a steady stream of friends coming in and out of our house all weekend. Jamie even visited for a bit. There was much delicious food and watching of awesome things (Glam Nation, Inception, A Very Potter Sequel).

A lot of my time was eaten up this week because I had an 8 page paper due in International Business and a speaking exam in Japanese. It's finally done though and I can relax for the rest of the week. I don't even have any class tomorrow because they're doing the speaking exam in Japanese and I've already completed mine!

I've also got a nice start on my Kuranosuke cosplay. I don't think I've mentioned it here yet, but I did end up registering for ACen this year and I'm planning on cosplaying Koibuchi Kuranosuke from Kuragehime. I'll be wearing his outfit from the first episode. I got my awesome curly pink wig in the mail this past weekend and this week I managed to buy the cowboy boots and a purse to go with the outfit. I bought the purple tights a while ago, so now I just need to get the turtleneck, fabric for the shorts, paint for the details on the boots, and supplies for the belt.

This weekend should be fun too! [livejournal.com profile] stellawind will be in town again! This weekend is also Little 500, IU's annual bike race/weekend of drunken revelry. I don't usually bother with it. Our form of celebrating will be going to Uncle E's to watch Zuryvette and Alie perform in the drag competition. Alie won the competition last month, so she'll be there as a performer this month. I'm sure we'll find some other fun things to do, too~

I've been feeling much better since Monday, but haven't have time to update because I've been busy with schoolwork. Now that I'm not sick and I have some free time, I'm going to post my Ohayocon con report!

Finally got my copy of Miyavi's newest CD, What's My Name?, in the mail today! (I ordered it a couple weeks back, but it took a while to ship from Asia.) I'm in love with it! The bouncy rock style makes me want to dance around and, of course, rock out. No one plays the guitar like Myv. Listening to the CD reminds me of seeing him in concert over the summer, because that was the first time I heard him play a number of these new songs. I think "Futuristic Love", "A-ha", and "Gravity" are my favorites of the new songs on the album. Every time I've heard "Gravity" so far, it's made me get all emotional. Myv just sounds so anguished when he's singing it. It gives me goosebumps.

I also watched the 3rd episode of Kuragehime today. Omg, this series is so cute! I really look forward to the new episode each week. Tsukimi is adorable and Kuranosuke is fabulous. I am trying to talk myself out of wanting to cosplay his (yes, hisoutfit from the first episode. So far, it's not working. I'll give it a few more episodes, but I think he's going to end up on my cosplay list.

I'm back from my weekend in Bloomington. I had a nice time with the girls.

Payne picked me up on Friday morning and we drove down to IU. We arrived in the early afternoon to find Alie hard at work, trying to meet the deadline for Gaia Online's cosplay contest. It was a bit of a lazy afternoon. Alie set part of her cosplay on fire in the microwave and it smelled foul, so we had to air our the house for a bit, lol. Then, I received news from my parents that my grandma (on my dad's side of the family) was in the hospital with pneumonia. Naturally, this upset me. I would have gone home if my parents thought it was necessary, but they seemed to think she was doing okay and that it would be unnecessary for me to leave early. It was good that the rest of my weekend was filled with distractions, so I wouldn't think about it as much. Friday night, after more of the group was free (except for Alie, as she was still working to meet her deadline), we went out to dinner at China Buffet for Greta's birthday. It was yummy. Then, after a quick visit to the manga section of Borders, we made our way to Zury's place. It was then decided that we needed to make a booze run. We then made some mudslides and played Munchkin. The game seemed like went on forever and I started to fall asleep, lol.

I spent part of Saturday helping Greta and Alie with their cosplay for the contest. Saturday night, the group got together for a cosplay dinner at Cracker Barrel. Some of us dressed up in cosplay, others wore fun wigs and outfits. We even had a mini Kuroshitsuji group. I wore my Ed cosplay, so I could peel off the layers and not die in the heat. Boy, was Cracker Barrel was surprised by us. Luckily, our waitress was super nice. She told us that our wigs reminded her of the Final Fantasy video games her husband played. There was also a little girl there eating dinner with her mother. Her face was painted like a tiger and her mother told us that they had been at the fair earlier in the day. The girl was super cute and shy, though she kept looking over at us. Eventually our waitress, who apparently knew the girl and her mother, carried the girl over to our table. We talked with her for a minute and she seemed to like our costumes, even though she seemed a little put off by [livejournal.com profile] yaexrae's red Sebastian contacts. As we were getting up to leave, our waitress was nice enough to offer to take a group picture of us. So, we have a nice group pic (even though we're missing a few of our members who couldn't make it). We then spent time messing around taking pictures outside Cracker Barrel. Then, it was onto Cat's place for wine and more goofing around. It was a fun night.

Got home yesterday afternoon and was super tired from lack of sleep. I get to go to the hospital later today and see how Grandma's doing.

ACen was super awesome this year! It was a definite improvement over the ball of stress that was this year's Ohayocon. The ACen plans worked out great and the whole thing was just a lot of fun.

Break has been going well so far. So far, I actually haven't had a single day that's been spent at home doing nothing. Mostly I've been spending time hanging out with DJ. I've also gotten to see most of my other friends at least once since arriving home.

A good chunk of my free time this week has been spent finishing my Izaya jacket. I finally finished it yesterday! (I realized in the process that I hate sewing within a time limit. I like being able to sew for short periods of time and then being come back to the item whenever I please.) I think the outside looks pretty nice. The inside seams are a bit sloppy at parts, but that was because I stopped caring about how the inside looked (cause people aren't gonna see it when I have the jacket on). ^_^; I can't wait to spend time running around as Izaya this weekend. He's going to be so much fun to cosplay!

ACen is tomorrow! I am so excited! Today, I need to make sure I have all my stuff for the weekend packed. I think that I'll be bringing Ed, besides Izaya. I think it might be too warm to comfortably wear my Axel cosplay and I'm still not happy with Tieria's wig, so I'm planning on leaving them at home. Then, the girls will be arriving at my place later today. They're staying the night so that they don't have to drive all the way from Bloomington tomorrow morning. I think we're going to get a pretty early start when heading over to the con tomorrow. Then we're meeting up with Sarah, a friend of mine from IU, who is generously allowing us to stay in her room at the con hotel, instead of the more expensive room we originally had at a nearby hotel. I think we're going to have around ten people in our hotel room. It should be good times. I'll be sure to post a con report with tons of pictures when I get back!

We had some really nice weather earlier this week, which I was enjoying. But, for some reason even the nice weather makes me want to be back in Japan. It makes me wish that I was running around in Tokyo; shopping at Takeshita Dori in Harajuku, exploring Ikebukuro, doing 花見, etc. It's not that I dislike being here, I just wasn't ready to give up the life that I had in Japan yet.

Something that does make me happy though is getting the fabric for my Izaya cosplay! After having cosplay ADD this semester, I finally settled on Izaya. First, I was going to do Chane because I love her character, but then I figured I would save it for a later con when I can get other people to cosplay Baccano characters with me. Then, I was going to cosplay Austria because we had all been talking about doing a Hetalia cosplay group, but that fell through. So, I finally decided on Izaya because I've been loving Durarara. All I need to do for his costume is make the jacket and then order his accessories. I also figured that it would be cheaper than some of the other cosplays I could do. Of course, Izaya is already trolling me 'cause the supplies for the jacket were more expensive than I expected. That's okay though because I'm super excited about cosplaying him. And [livejournal.com profile] yaexrae is going to be my Shizuo! That makes me even more excited because I'm going to have a Shizu-chan to bother~!

And tomorrow [livejournal.com profile] stellawind  is coming to visit! Yay!
