This is going to be a random entry.

First of all, when is our country going to stop being run by idiots? I can't believe that the repeal for DADT didn't pass in the Senate today. It makes me so angry that people still need to fight for this.

Had an odd night of sleep last night. I woke up sometime after 3 AM and couldn't make myself fall back to sleep, so I put on some music in hopes that it would lull me back to sleep. (I chose Gazette's album DIM. Is it weird that I can use that album for both rocking out and for helping me sleep?) The music did end up helping me sleep and once I did I had an odd sequence of dreams. The memories of them are somewhat fuzzy. I was in a dream that I figured out wasn't real (because one of my cousins was there and she was about ten years younger than she should have been, so logically my brain said that didn't make any sense). It turns out that that was a dream within a dream because I woke up in my bed in the townhouse, but was actually still dreaming. In my dream, I went downstairs to find my roommates sitting at the dining room table and I informed them about my previous dream and how I had figured out it wasn't real. I think there was more that happened that I'm not really remembering now, but then I finally woke up for real. I kind of boggled at the sequence of dreams for a minute and then was reminded of Inception, lol.

Watched the first episode of the new season of Glee tonight! I enjoy Glee. It's a lot of fun to watch. I miss watching it with DJ though. He's the one who got me hooked on it this summer and we watched most of the first season together.

As far as other things go, my roomies and I are just trying to get plans in order for Anime Crossroads this weekend. There's a few things we still need to figure out with regards to the rooming situations, but I'm sure they'll all be worked out in time for this weekend. And we at least know for sure that Allison and Alyssa are going to watch Leroko for us while we're gone all weekend.

I should probably continue studying kanji for my quiz tomorrow. In reality, because I have already spent some time studying, I will probably spend more time online instead.

Well, life has continued on. Things have been happening.

Most of my classes are going fine so far. Japanese is doing it's best to try and kick my ass though. I've been making my way through it, but I'm going to need to step up my game. This is going to be a lot of work that I'm not looking forward to. (It doesn't help that our textbook, Tobira, sucks.) One of my more fun class this semester is Intro to Buddhism. Buddhism is a pretty interesting subject and it helps a lot that my professor reminds me almost freakishly of Neil Patrick Harris. At least, Neil Patrick Harris if he were a glasses wearing college professor. It makes me happy.

The kitten has officially been ours for about a week now. Alie bought her a collar and took her to a vet appointment. She seems to be healthy. The vet also thinks that Leroko is about 4 1/2 months old, which is nice info to know. Leroko has also settled in quite nicely. Though now that she's comfortable with us, she's gotten more mischievous. This involves things such as trying to eat food off the table, clawing herself along the bottom of the couch, and attacking people's feet. She can be cute and affectionate (she purrs a lot), or bratty and bitey. Living with a cat has just proved to me once and for all that I am without a doubt more of a dog person, lol.

This past weekend was pretty fun! [livejournal.com profile] stellawind and [livejournal.com profile] yaexrae came to visit us! It was good to see both of them. [livejournal.com profile] stellawind made us a delicious Japanese style lunch on Saturday, with yakisoba and okonomiyaki. We were also able to get a large chunk of our IU friend group together for hangouts over the weekend. We ended up chilling out at Cat's apartment on Saturday night, while she and [livejournal.com profile] yaexrae practiced their ACross skit. Cat even filmed some of our goofiness.

And in more awkward news, I've had two dates with Chance recently. He's a friend of Alie's and he seemed nice, so I decided to give things a try. It just didn't work though. He can be fun to talk to, but there was just nothing else there. I also think he's not quite as mature as I would like him to be. He took me out for dinner and a second viewing of Scott Pilgrim tonight. But, I had to tell him that things weren't working for me. I felt bad because I think I hurt his feelings, but I couldn't keep lying to him. I kind of don't know why I bother sometimes. Guys and I just never end up working out well.

I finally saw Toy Story 3 yesterday. It was very good, but bittersweet. I think it really hit me because I'm in college and have realized that I'm not a child anymore. Pixar chose the perfect time for the full emotional impact of this movie. All of the children who originally saw Toy Story in theaters are now around college age. If I didn't love Pixar so much, I'd hate them for how emotional their movies can make me.

After watching So You Think You Can Dance last night, DJ and I picked up Kala. We then met up with Jessie and her friend Josh at a bar they had gone to. It was kind of a dive, but we had fun chatting and having a few drinks nonetheless. Jessie and Josh got me a Jagerbomb, cause I'd never had one before. It was okay, but not fantastic. It was also karaoke night, but I wasn't in the mood for singing in front of people.

Today was busier than I expected it to be. I started my morning off by going over to visit our neighbors. They're a slightly older, retired couple. They wanted me to try and translate something for them. They have a Japanese flag from WWII and it's covered in writing (and dried blood from the war...). As best as I could make out, the flag was for some officer in the army, wishing him good luck. I couldn't get much more out of it than that because the flag was completely covered with handwritten kanji (which is automatically harder to read). There were a lot of characters and combinations that I didn't know and my kanji dictionary on my DS was only so helpful. I did find it to be interesting though. I just wish that I could have understood more of it.

Then, I came back home and made cookies. Afterwords, I spent the afternoon with DJ, which involved things such as trying to watch 9 (but only getting halfway through because the DVD was scratched) and going to Bath & Body Works.. After we had dinner, we went over to Alex's house for a couple of hours. It was a fun time because, even though I don't know Alex very well, her house is always very welcoming.

I'm excited for this weekend! I get to go visit my girls in Bloomington! This makes me happy because I so miss geeking out with them. It's Greta's birthday tomorrow and Alie's birthday next week, so we plan on partying. I believe there are plans to have a cosplay dinner. I should get ready for bed because I'm meeting up with Payne early tomorrow. She's driving both of us down to IU. :D

Life has certainly been full of ups and downs and eventful things these past couple of days.

I, just as I feared, was not able to test into the correct level of Japanese that I would have needed for this semester. So, I have to go a semester without Japanese. I have been quite depressed about this and trying not to think about it too much, because it makes me start feeling lost and panicky. It's my major and I can't take a class on it this semester. I'm so worried that I'm going to forget too much if I can't consistently keep up with my Japanese. I have to see about getting a tutor for this semester.

Kristi, Greta, and Nicole are all moved into the townhouse. I actually think it's going to work out fairly well. We've had a talk with Kristi about keeping things clean. She's asked us to tell her anytime something in the house bothers us or if she needs to clean something. I think with all of us living in the house this semester we will be able to make sure that it stays reasonably clean. Much of the house has already been cleaned and we're in the process of organizing it.

This then brings us to last night. We got a good chunk of our group together for dinner at TGI Friday's. We met up with Amy and Emilia (aka Payne and Blaser), Kristi's friends who I knew in passing. They're now members of the Dog Lovers' Society, our cosplay group that my friends started last semester. Unfortunately, we were having the dinner because it was Amy's last night in Bloomington. She had to leave Bloomington this semester, which left Emilia without a roommate and unable to pay her rent. Emilia was having trouble finding someone to room with, so we agreed that she could move into the townhouse with us! We're getting rid of our dining room table, so that we can curtain off the area and Emilia can use it as her room (because we have no more room in the bedrooms). It all happened so fast! We decided she could move in with us last night, and now we've already had her name put on the lease to our place and she's been moving some of her stuff into the house. We'll have a full house, but it should be a lot of fun. And I like Emilia. She seems like a very sweet person. I'm definitely looking forward to having all of us living together this semester. The rent will be super affordable too, since we're splitting it five ways.

Classes start tomorrow. I'm not quite ready for them to begin though. Tomorrow I've got Intro to International Studies and Intro to Gender Studies. I hope they'll be interesting.

Today was not the greatest. I had to wait forever in the cold and snow for the bus that would take me to campus. Seriously, I waited so long that my toes felt like blocks of ice. I've been feeling slightly better today, but I hope all that time spent outside doesn't make my cold worse. Then I took the Japanese placement test. I don't even want to think about how it went right now. I have no idea, but I'll find out the results tomorrow. After the test, I just missed the bus I needed to take me back to the house. So, I had to wait in the Union for around an hour until the next bus came. This normally wouldn't be so bad, but practically everything in the Union is closed right now because it's technically still break. So boring. I wasn't about to wonder anywhere else though because it was freezing outside and still snowing.

Now that I'm back in my warm house, I'm having a cup of green tea in my new Gundam 00 teacup. I'm gonna go curl up and read and not go outside for the rest of the day. I plan on finishing a Kirk/Spock fic that I recently started reading. I also might watch my copy of the new Star Trek movie because I'm in the mood for it. Then, I'm gonna take a peak at my new copy of Textual Poachers by Henry Jenkins. It's for the class on fandom that I am taking this semester. Yes, a class on fandom. You can bet that I'm super excited about that!

Spoilers )

[livejournal.com profile] yangwarrior went home this weekend, and I went with her. It was a nice, relaxing weekend. We did practically nothing.

The only thing I accomplished this weekend was beating The World Ends With You. It was a very good game, and I really enjoyed playing it. And now I have a new fandom to explore! I totally ship Joshua/Neku.

[livejournal.com profile] immelmanturn, Allison, and Alyssa came by last night. [livejournal.com profile] immelmanturn and I practiced our dialogue for our Japanese oral midterm (about Elvis being borrowed by aliens), while we watched the Oscars. It was fun. I was glad to see that Heath got his well deserved Oscar, and to see that Slumdog Millionare took Best Picture. It was the only one of the Oscar nominees that I'd seen, but it was a very good movie. I think [livejournal.com profile] immelmanturn and I managed to do a decent job on our dialogue today, as well.

But, now there is tomorrow morning's written Japanese midterm to study for. :P
