I didn't do much yesterday, but I did finally message Joe to tell him that I only like him as a friend. He had been hinting that he wanted me to come over to his place and hang out, and I needed to put a stop to that train of thought. He was disappointed, but seemed to take everything pretty well (at least he didn't seem upset in the message). He said he understood that I couldn't force there to be feelings if there weren't any and thanked me for being honest with him. I'm glad that I've got that straightened out now.

Today was a fun day. I met up with Masami, a friend that I met through Elise (who I met through Yumi). Masami is a graduate student at Waseda University and she wanted to interview me for her research. This weekend was also the gakuensai (school festival) at Waseda, so she invited me to go with her. Her kouhai in Waseda's Sexual Minority Club had filmed a movie to show at the festival, so we went to watch it. It was a really done movie about the lives of gay Japanese college students. The stories were good and it had surprisingly good production values for a student film. I couldn't understand everything that was said in the movie, but I understood enough to get the major points of what was going on (I think), so I was happy about that. After the movie we walked around for a bit to see more of the festival and eat some food. I had dukbokki (spicy Korean rice cakes) for the first time after the students at the booth kept challenging me to try it lol. It was yummy.

After the festival, Masami and I went to a cozy little cafe to do our interview. She's writing her thesis about yaoi and gender identity, so she thought it would be interesting to interview someone with a western perspective. I think her research is really interesting and it's a subject that I like talking about, so I was happy to do the interview. I really enjoyed discussing things with her. I also got to eat delicious baked cheesecake while we were talking, so that made things even better.

And now I should get ready for bed. I've got a busy week ahead of me. G'night!

Well, life has continued on. Things have been happening.

Most of my classes are going fine so far. Japanese is doing it's best to try and kick my ass though. I've been making my way through it, but I'm going to need to step up my game. This is going to be a lot of work that I'm not looking forward to. (It doesn't help that our textbook, Tobira, sucks.) One of my more fun class this semester is Intro to Buddhism. Buddhism is a pretty interesting subject and it helps a lot that my professor reminds me almost freakishly of Neil Patrick Harris. At least, Neil Patrick Harris if he were a glasses wearing college professor. It makes me happy.

The kitten has officially been ours for about a week now. Alie bought her a collar and took her to a vet appointment. She seems to be healthy. The vet also thinks that Leroko is about 4 1/2 months old, which is nice info to know. Leroko has also settled in quite nicely. Though now that she's comfortable with us, she's gotten more mischievous. This involves things such as trying to eat food off the table, clawing herself along the bottom of the couch, and attacking people's feet. She can be cute and affectionate (she purrs a lot), or bratty and bitey. Living with a cat has just proved to me once and for all that I am without a doubt more of a dog person, lol.

This past weekend was pretty fun! [livejournal.com profile] stellawind and [livejournal.com profile] yaexrae came to visit us! It was good to see both of them. [livejournal.com profile] stellawind made us a delicious Japanese style lunch on Saturday, with yakisoba and okonomiyaki. We were also able to get a large chunk of our IU friend group together for hangouts over the weekend. We ended up chilling out at Cat's apartment on Saturday night, while she and [livejournal.com profile] yaexrae practiced their ACross skit. Cat even filmed some of our goofiness.

And in more awkward news, I've had two dates with Chance recently. He's a friend of Alie's and he seemed nice, so I decided to give things a try. It just didn't work though. He can be fun to talk to, but there was just nothing else there. I also think he's not quite as mature as I would like him to be. He took me out for dinner and a second viewing of Scott Pilgrim tonight. But, I had to tell him that things weren't working for me. I felt bad because I think I hurt his feelings, but I couldn't keep lying to him. I kind of don't know why I bother sometimes. Guys and I just never end up working out well.
