They'll call it chance, or luck, or call it Fate

I've been feeling much better since Monday, but haven't have time to update because I've been busy with schoolwork. Now that I'm not sick and I have some free time, I'm going to post my Ohayocon con report!

I have returned from Ohayocon! Rather, I returned from the con Sunday night. Despite a fuck-up with the hotel, the weekend was great! I was so happy to see all my girls, especially meepalicious. I will provide a full con report (with photos) sometime later this week, when I stop being lazy.

I feel that I am quite justified in being lazy at the moment because Bloomington is being hit with a giant ice storm. Classes were cancelled midway through the afternoon, so I didn't have to go my last class of the day. And my Japanese lecture has been cancelled for tomorrow morning as well. That leaves me with one other class tomorrow morning, that will most likely also be cancelled. So, tomorrow should hopefully be a snow day! I am going to sit around and continue catching up on everything I missed on the internet while I was gone. I am looking forward to it.

The only downside is that I might be coming down with a bit of the con plague. It seems like a number of people in our group have already had it. My throat is scratchy and my head feels a little funny. I've been taking extra vitamin C, so I'm hoping that it won't get worse. I guess I'll just have to wait and see though. Even, if I do get sick, it's not like I'll be missing out on much tomorrow anyways.

I'm so excited because Ohayocon starts tomorrow! I feel like I've been looking forward to this for forever. I'm extra excited for this year's con because meepalicious will be there! I haven't seen her since I left Japan. Of course, I'm happy that I get to see the rest of my girls at the con, too. I want to make this weekend amazing.

This is a short entry because I need to run along and do most of my packing for the weekend. We're trying to leave the house by 8 tomorrow morning, so we can get to Columbus by midday. I'll be back with plenty of pictures next week!

Last minute Ohayocon prep is in full swing right now! I'm so excited for the con and our giant FMA group! We just need to make it through all the little last minute things first. Payne is driving into town tonight so she can leave with us in the morning. The living room of our house looks like one big giant cosplay disaster area. I'm just glad that I'm not working on any costumes. I'll be wearing Edward Elric and Axel this time, so I don't need to work on anything new right now. I still need to pack my stuff though and we need to put everyone's stuff in our cars, so we don't have to worry about doing it tomorrow. We also need to finish rehearsing the skit (which I am trying not to freak out too much about). I hope it'll go well.

I'm going to go do constructive things to get ready for the con now. I'll take lots of pics and make a con post when I get back next week! See ya!

On Sunday, everyone in the house went to see Avatar in 3D. I was left with mixed feelings.

Sunday night we ended up having a cosplay prep party at the house. immelmanturn came by and stayed the night, while Ohayocon costume making went on. We watched Star Trek (2009), Star Trek: The Voyage Home (aka the one with the whales), and Land Before Time. One of these things is not like the other. It was a fun time though. Kristi got a start on her Al armor. Yes, Al from Fullmetal Alchemist. She's making the armor out of Wonderflex. If this thing gets finished in time, it's going to be pretty awesome. I am getting super excited for the con and our huge FMA cosplay group.

Classes have been going well so far. Most of them seem quite interesting. I'm especially excited about my "Fans, Subculture, and Mass Culture" and "Intro to Gender Studies" classes. We kicked off the fandom class by watching a clip of One Man Star Wars. The other day we then moved on to talking about fandom as pathology and how not all fans are crazy. Our professor for the class seems quite nice and academic, but everyonce and a while she'll slip and let her fannish tendencies show (such as telling us that she prefers Spike over Angel in Buffy). I feel that it's going to be an awesome class. My Gender Studies class promises to be interesting as well. One of my particular interests is the fluidity of gender and sexuality (something that I witness very much in fandom and at cons). I can't wait to learn more about it and relate those ideas to the world around me. Another notable class that I'm taking is a class on Kurosawa films, taught by Rubinger, whom I've taken several classes with before. Every week we're watching a different Kurosawa film, which means that I'll finally get around to watching Seven Samurai.

As of yesterday, Emilia has moved in with us. I think that everything is going to work out just fine, and it's going to be a lot of fun. It may be a little chaotic in the house over the next couple of weeks though. Ohayocon is impending and I get the feeling that our place is going to be turned into cosplay central. Fortunately, I'm also not working on a new costume right now. I just need to worry about rehearsing for the skit that I was kind of roped into doing with the Dog Lovers' Society. ^_^;

Finally, at long last, the Ohayocon con report! It's long and very image heavy, so beware.

Ohayocon was awesome! It was my first time attending a con other than ACen. Although Ohayocon was smaller than ACen, it was still a lot of fun~.
