Time for my ACen con report!

Click for con report and pics... )

Though it would have been awesome to have more of the DLS (my usual cosplay group) there, ACen was pretty fantastic this year! I had a great time cosplaying Kuranosuke and meeting Yoshiki. Sadly, this ACen will be my last con for a while. I'll miss going to American cons while I'm in Japan! There will always be more to go to when I get back though, so I'm not too sad.

I'm gearing up for ACen this week! On Sunday, I sewed Kuranosuke's shorts. I didn't have a pattern, so I made my own with some helpful tips from online. The shorts were fairly easy to make and I think they turned out pretty well. Yesterday, I made Kuranosuke's belt out of pink ribbon. This was actually a bit more work than I was anticipating because, in order for it to look nice, I had to make the bow separately and attach it to the belt. Today, I cut the bangs on Kuranosuke's wig. I'm thinking that I should probably get to the store before the con and buy some Motions Oil Sheen Spray or Mane n' Tail Detangler, both of which I've heard work great on getting tangles out of/preventing new tangles from forming in wigs. I can already tell that this wig is gonna tangle like a bitch and be a mess by the end of the con because it's long and curly.

ACen doesn't start until Friday, but I'm actually going to be leaving for it on Thursday. Sarah reserved the hotel room for three nights (luckily, it's going to be really cheap because we have so many people staying in the room), and she'll be picking up me and Kala on her way to the con. I'm getting pretty excited! I checked online today and the schedule has been posted. Even though I usually like to go, I think I might skip the Masquerade this year because it conflicts with Yoshiki's panel and autograph session. And really, how many other chances am I going to have to possibly meet Yoshiki?

Been a bit of a busy bee this week, but I've finally got some time to update.

Last weekend was quite nice. [livejournal.com profile] stellawind came to visit and we pretty much had a steady stream of friends coming in and out of our house all weekend. Jamie even visited for a bit. There was much delicious food and watching of awesome things (Glam Nation, Inception, A Very Potter Sequel).

A lot of my time was eaten up this week because I had an 8 page paper due in International Business and a speaking exam in Japanese. It's finally done though and I can relax for the rest of the week. I don't even have any class tomorrow because they're doing the speaking exam in Japanese and I've already completed mine!

I've also got a nice start on my Kuranosuke cosplay. I don't think I've mentioned it here yet, but I did end up registering for ACen this year and I'm planning on cosplaying Koibuchi Kuranosuke from Kuragehime. I'll be wearing his outfit from the first episode. I got my awesome curly pink wig in the mail this past weekend and this week I managed to buy the cowboy boots and a purse to go with the outfit. I bought the purple tights a while ago, so now I just need to get the turtleneck, fabric for the shorts, paint for the details on the boots, and supplies for the belt.

This weekend should be fun too! [livejournal.com profile] stellawind will be in town again! This weekend is also Little 500, IU's annual bike race/weekend of drunken revelry. I don't usually bother with it. Our form of celebrating will be going to Uncle E's to watch Zuryvette and Alie perform in the drag competition. Alie won the competition last month, so she'll be there as a performer this month. I'm sure we'll find some other fun things to do, too~

ACen was super awesome this year! It was a definite improvement over the ball of stress that was this year's Ohayocon. The ACen plans worked out great and the whole thing was just a lot of fun.

Break has been going well so far. So far, I actually haven't had a single day that's been spent at home doing nothing. Mostly I've been spending time hanging out with DJ. I've also gotten to see most of my other friends at least once since arriving home.

A good chunk of my free time this week has been spent finishing my Izaya jacket. I finally finished it yesterday! (I realized in the process that I hate sewing within a time limit. I like being able to sew for short periods of time and then being come back to the item whenever I please.) I think the outside looks pretty nice. The inside seams are a bit sloppy at parts, but that was because I stopped caring about how the inside looked (cause people aren't gonna see it when I have the jacket on). ^_^; I can't wait to spend time running around as Izaya this weekend. He's going to be so much fun to cosplay!

ACen is tomorrow! I am so excited! Today, I need to make sure I have all my stuff for the weekend packed. I think that I'll be bringing Ed, besides Izaya. I think it might be too warm to comfortably wear my Axel cosplay and I'm still not happy with Tieria's wig, so I'm planning on leaving them at home. Then, the girls will be arriving at my place later today. They're staying the night so that they don't have to drive all the way from Bloomington tomorrow morning. I think we're going to get a pretty early start when heading over to the con tomorrow. Then we're meeting up with Sarah, a friend of mine from IU, who is generously allowing us to stay in her room at the con hotel, instead of the more expensive room we originally had at a nearby hotel. I think we're going to have around ten people in our hotel room. It should be good times. I'll be sure to post a con report with tons of pictures when I get back!

ACen plans are officially a "go"! We're registered and we've got our hotel room booked. Now we just need to work on cosplay stuff. Only two and 1/2 months to go!

Watched ep. 8 of Durarara today. This series continues to make me happy~. There were some cute moments in this episode. I think my favorite is the fact that Celty goes to Shizuo for advice. Aww.

ACen tomorrow! I'm so very excited right now, as I run about doing last minute preparations! A major crisis that involved [personal profile] yangwarrior's car breaking down, which would mean that none of the IU crew would make it up here for the convention, was successfully averted yesterday. So it's all good. [personal profile] yangwarrior is coming  to stay with me tonight. We're going to be meeting up with [personal profile] stellawind and Nicole tomorrow. And [profile] suissecheeze, Kevin, and Kala will also be in our ACen group. I can't wait! I will be back after this weekend with lots of pictures~.

[personal profile] immelmanturn: I will do my very best to try and deliver the duck to Quinton Flynn!

I can update now that my AP test is finally over.

This past weekend was the best! I had so very much fun at Acen! I'm going to type a big long entry now, so feel free just to skim over it.

Meghan and I left right after school on Friday. The car ride up to the con, which normally would have taken us around an hour, took us about 2 1/2- 3 hours because of traffic. Luckily we had plently of j-rock and anime music to keep us entertained while we were stuck in said traffic. When we finally got there it took a while to get our hotel room. After throwing our stuff down in the room, we made our way over to the convention center. We decided not to spend time in the dealer's room/artist's alley that night because it was nearly time for it to close when we got there. Instead we went over to the Hyatt, where the other half of the con was being held. We explored to see what was going on over there and decided to go to the shounen-ai panel. All about "pure love". We enjoyed that very much, so we decided to stay for the next panel (held by the same group) which was the 18+ yaoi panel. It was such an amusing time! I have two words reguarding that panel. Invisi-penis. After the panel Meghan and I decided to head back to our hotel room so we could get and early start the next day.

Saturday was the first day we cosplayed. I loved wearing my costume! I love Ed so much. We spent the majority of the morning shopping in the dealer's room. I bought quite a few things. Then we took our stuff back to the room so we could head over to the concert. The concert was two bands, Spiral Spiders and High and Mighty Color. I thought both of the bands were really good. Meghan and I were on the floor for the concert,  jumping and dancing. I was so hot and my feet were killing me from my boots, but I was having too much fun to care. We were too warm after the concert, so we changed out of our costumes before going to the masquerade. My favorite part of the masquerade was the skits. The two skits I loved were Asuma's Training Techniques (a Naruto skit) and Mom in a Box (an Advent Children skit, a parody of Dick in a Box). Meghan and I took another break for dinner. At the hotel I was surprised to find Ariel! It turned out that she happened to be staying at the same hotel and the same floor as us. We hung out with her for a while before Meghan and I went to the Soap Bubble. The Soap Bubble is the annual dance at Acen. It goes on all night. Meghan and I spent the majority of the night there. We ran into some people we knew from school (Deanna and Kevin) and danced with them all night. The music was mostly techno and other styles of music similar to it. And there were glowsticks. By the end of the night I was very sore and tired, but I was happy, so it was alright.

Sunday morning we slept in a bit later. We cosplayed again on Sunday. I had people coming up and asking me for pictures on both days that I cosplayed. It made me happy when one girl told me I was one of the best Eds she'd seen all weekend. That morning Meghan and I finished up the rest of our shopping. We even spent some time shopping with Deanna and Kevin. There weren't as many events on Sunday so we just walked around and relaxed. We left in the middle of the afternoon. Before we hit the road, we grabbed some McDonald's. It amused me that at least half of the people in McDonald's were also in cosplay.

And that was my weekend. I loved my first con! I can't wait to go back next year! Meghan and I have already decided that we will be going back.
