I had a rather up and down weekend. Saturday was a fun day, even though it was rainy. Leslie ended up joining me in my spring clothes shopping. We started in Shinjuku at Alta. We had takoyaki for lunch. I burnt my mouth while eating the takoyaki, like a boss. It wasn't pleasant, but I still managed to eat sakura mochi taiyaki for dessert. Then it was shopping time. I didn't find as much as I'd hoped for at Alta, this time around. There was a cute pair of shoes that I wanted, but they didn't have my size. After Alta, we went to the Shinjuku Closet Child, where I bought a cute Peace Now shirt. We also ended up going to Marui One, even though I wasn't sure I was going to buy anything there (cause it tends to be a bit pricier). Of course, I ended up buying something. I was browsing h.NAOTO (it just so happened that both h.NAOTO and IBI were working at the store that day) and found a really cute MINT NEKO jacket. I ended up buying it! I can't wait for the weather to get warmer so I can actually wear it. Leslie and I then ended up back in Ikebukuro, where we ate dinner at 80+1. I had a hot ham sandwich and it was delicious.

I was feeling a bit down on Sunday. I finished reading Tokyo Babylon in the morning and it didn't help my mood any. That kind of set the tone for the rest of the day. Leslie and I went to Harajuku, which was nice, but I just felt off most of the day. We checked out a bit of the Tokyo St. Patrick's Day Parade, which was somewhat amusing to see. Later in the day, we met up with Anna, Kate, and Kate's mom for dinner at Saizeriya, since Kate and her mom were visiting Tokyo. Not a bad day at all, but I still wasn't quite happy.

Today was better. I had the day off because it's Vernal Equinox Day. (Thank you, Japan.) I met up with Greta since Tuesday is one of her usual days off. Anna was going to originally join us, but she didn't get the details in time. Greta and I went to Sunshine City to find a place to eat lunch. We weren't in the mood for any heavy food, so we ended up going to a Korean restaurant and having bibimbap. We just wandered around Ikebukuro and browsed the usual stores after lunch. Later in the afternoon we stopped to have rose tea and sakura cake at Swallowtail White Rose. The cakes were so pretty and delicious! I prefer the atmosphere at 80+1 though.

Tomorrow night is the end of the year dinner for the English department. Apparently we're going to a nice Chinese restaurant. Then Friday is the closing ceremony for the school year. I didn't sign up for the end of the year party on Friday night because I'll already have gone to the other two dinners and I'd like to save a bit of money. Mostly, I'm just waiting for this weekend because Kiri is going to be visiting Tokyo for a couple days!

This is the first entry I'm typing from my brand new laptop! (^_^) My other laptop had been giving me so many problems recently that Mom and Dad agreed to get me a new laptop as an early birthday/Christmas present. It's a Samsung Notebook. It's patterned so it looks like a dark brown wood grain, but it still has that very shiny laptop finish on the outside. It seems pretty nice so far (aside from the fact that I needed to find my power adapter to be able to plug it in), so I'm happy with it. The laptop actually arrived on Thursday, but I've been busy enough that I didn't have much of a chance to use it until today. I spent the better part of the day exporting and downloading files to my new laptop, so that everything is just the way I like it. Now, I just need to think of a name for my laptop. I named my previous laptop Veda (after the computer in Gundam 00), so I'll have to think of something else to call this one.

I had the day off today because it was Saitama Prefectural Day, meaning that it's just a holiday in Saitama. Thank god. I've been so tired. Besides the conference and the concert, I worked extra hours this week helping some of my students prepare for the Eiken (an English proficiency exam). I also had work on Saturday because we had a special day of classes, where for part of the day students' parents and prospective students could come visit the classes. I get tomorrow off too, to make up for the fact that I had to work on Saturday.

Yesterday was a fun day. [livejournal.com profile] meepalicious and I went to Akihabara and Ikebukuro. We started the day by meeting in Akiba and getting lunch at Saizeriya. We then browsed around all the usual geeky places, like Mandarake, Animate, Kotobukiya, and Toranoana. Of course, I ended up buying doujinshi. This time I bought 3 Tiger & Bunny, 1 Gundam 00, and 1 Saiyuki. I also got a cool phone chram of Haku from Spirited Away in his dragon form. Leslie and I also bought some macaroons on our way to the train station. I hadn't had macaroons before and they were delicious. Then, we went to Ikebukuro. We browsed the usual places for a bit and then went to buy HeatTech clothes at Uniqlo. I'm hoping that it'll help keep me warmer once it starts getting even colder here. (Curse your lack of central heating, Japan!)

I may or may not go somewhere tomorrow. It probably depends on how tired I am in the morning. It'd be a good day to go into Tokyo tomorrow because it's a weekday, so not as many people will be off of work and school. We'll see.

Yesterday, Greta, [livejournal.com profile] meepalicious  and I spent the whole day going around Tokyo. We managed to hit all the major stops on the Yamanote-sen. We got tokunai passes for unlimited JR train usage in the Tokyo area. First we stopped in Akihabara. I bought a pair of official Star Wars lightsaber chopsticks. They're pretty awesome. Next stop was Ikebukuro. I made my last doujinshi trip at Mandarake. I managed to find one of the other Gosunkugi Lockon/Tieria doujinshi I had been looking for. The Mandarake also provided a source of amusement because one of the shopworkers was cosplaying as Jesus from Saint Young Men. It was then time for one last lunch at B:Lily-Rose. It was fun as usual. I wish I knew more Japanese to be able to interact with the staff better. It's sad because what I can decode of the website informs me that the shop is closing at the end of the year. Woe. We then made a brief stop in Harajuku, so Greta could pick up a present for her brother. I stared at the Gazette track jacket some more, but did not purchase it because of lack of funds at that moment. After that it was on to Omotesando to go to GoFa and see the Saiyuki exhibit. It was a small selection of the prints we had already seen at Saiyuki Festa, but that's okay because they were still super pretty. We were also let in for free because GoFa was where Leslie worked for her field placement! While we were there, we were also able to leave notes for Minekura. Yay! We then went to Shinjuku because Leslie wanted to see about paying her rent in advance. We also went to the Shinjuku Closet Child. They had a lot of Vivenne Westwood stuff there. The next stop was Shibuya. I bought a CD by a Japanese jazz group for Dad at HMV. We also briefly checked out the 109. The last stop we made was the Tokyo Tower in Hamamatsucho. Greta parted ways with Leslie and I because she had already been to the Tokyo Tower. Leslie and I made our way to the main observation deck of the tower. By that time it was dark outside and the whole city was lit up. It was gorgeous and amazing because the lights seemed to go on forever, no matter which side of the Tokyo Tower you looked out of. I loved it. I almost can't describe how looking at it made me feel, knowing that this whole city was so big and beautiful and I would be leaving it all too soon. It almost made me want to cry. It was the perfect way to end the day. Leslie and I then returned to the dorm and had some of the mac & cheese her mom had sent her for dinner. Let me tell you, Kraft Three Cheese Mac & Cheese is the most delicious thing ever when it has been months since you have last had mac & cheese.

Today, I didn't have any class, so Leslie and I got lunch together at the Herb & Scone Cafe. I had some Matcha Chiffon cake with my tea. Then, this afternoon, I met Kirsten in Harajuku. I finally bought the Gazette track jacket. It's pretty comfy and it makes me happy. We also made a stop at the Pokemon Center in Hamamatsucho. I picked up a plush Eevee as a present for Tara there.

Now, I'm working on packing and practicing for my Japanese speaking final tomorrow. I'm nearly done with most of my packing. I had to buy a small suitcase to fit more of my stuff in the other day. I should just be able to fit all my stuff now. I'm in a kind of variable mood right now because I don't want to think about leaving. Tomorrow night is the IES Sayonara party. One last chance to see everyone before I go. Sigh. There's too little time left.

My birthday was a good time!

This past week was so busy, I was so glad when Friday night rolled around. After our Politics final, our professor Colin took the class out to a bar called Always. We had appetizer type food there. We were also fortunate enough to arrive during Happy Hour for half price drinks. I ended up having a margarita, a daiquiri, and part of Lauren's Long Island iced tea. I was tipsy for a while, but I didn't get really drunk. That was fine by me though. The night was pretty fun, except for a little bit at the end where Lauren turned into a sad drunk and broke down crying. [livejournal.com profile] meepalicious  and I ended up comforting her. There was a bunch of other funny stuff that happened before that though, like Chris drunkenly trying to psychoanalyze me. So amusing.

Yesterday was a bit of a post-birthday celebration, since I had class on my actual birthday. I spent the day with [livejournal.com profile] meepalicious , Greta, and Nicole. Because it was my birthday, I was given fearless leader status for a day. We dressed up in fun clothes and kicked the day off in Ikebukuro. First, we had lunch at B:Lily-Rose. I love that place. This time I had a yummy chocolate cake set to eat. I also got my picture taken with our waiter(ess). When she found out it was my birthday, she had me sit on her lap for the picture. (XD) It turned out super cute! After the cafe, we headed to Closet Child's new location. I got a cute Algonquin's shirt. It's really more of a sleeveless hoodie, and it has a hood with cat ears on it.

Then, it was on to Harajuku. I had originally wanted to get a second set of piercings in my ears to celebrate both my 21st birthday and my time in Japan. I checked out a piercing parlor I had been recommended to there, but their prices were super expensive. It would have cost me around $200 to get my ears pierced, which is kind of ridiculous. I decided to forgo the piercing and go shopping with my birthday money. First I hit the J-rock Closet Child. I bought DaizyStripper's latest mini album and a Gazette tote bag. I then stopped at Takuya Angel. I would have loved to have been able to buy an actual outfit there, but that's way out of my budget right now. I did however buy some adorable arm warmers with little claws on them. Takuya Angel himself was working at the shop when we were there. He seemed quite amused, watching me try on all the different arm warmers, lol. He was super nice. I had some nice conversation with him, me using my Japanese, and he using some English and some Japanese. He even gave me a present along with my purchase, a CD of his most recent DJ set. It's a really nice hour long mix. After that, we went to the Harajuku Closet Child. I bought a pretty cool looking H.Anarchy shirt there. For foods, Nicole bought me a yummy birthday crepe. We then went and looked at the pretty dollies in the Soom store. On our way back to the station I stopped at Paris Kids and bought a few cute pairs of earrings, including their knockoff Vivienne Westwood earrings (because I'm not going to be able to afford any real Vivienne Westwood anytime soon).

It was all quite fun. Now, I'm going to make the most of the week I have left in Japan. I can't believe that I'l be going home a week from now. I'm not ready for this semester to be over. Luckily, even though my Japanese final is this week, I don't have that much class this week, which leaves me with a lot of time to finish things up. I'm already planning out the places I want to go this week. I think Wednesday might be a pretty busy, but good, day.
