rinlin: (Shining SHINee~)

As I mentioned in my last entry, I've been really into K-pop recently. Actually, for about the past month or so. I've poked around the fringes of K-pop fandom for a while (mainly because of TVXQ, but there was a bit of Super Junior and SHINee in there too), telling myself that I didn't need another obsession on top of my Japan obsession. Then there came a point where I just couldn't resist anymore. My downfall was watching SHINee's episodes of Hello Baby, which is a Korean show that takes a K-pop group and gives them a real baby to raise for 100 days. So it ended up being five cute/silly/awkward teenaged boys taking care of one of the cutest toddlers I've seen. It was all the adorableness that I could have asked for. I regret nothing. That did me in. After watching Hello Baby, I just let myself fall into K-pop fandom. Right now, I'm really into TVXQ, SHINee, and Big Bang. I also really enjoy Super Junior and f(x).

Really, I'm kind of amazed that it took me this long to become obsessed. K-pop contains so many of my favorite things: some of the catchiest music I've ever heard (I definitely prefer the more upbeat dance songs that are so popular in K-pop right now, compared to the R&B style songs that are also somewhat common), pretty Asians (I'm partial to the guy groups, but there are also some gorgeous ladies), and ridiculous/fabulous outfits. I also feel that the groups must also be contractually obliged to do dorky and ridiculous things. It seems like they're always doing silly tasks on Korean variety shows. I end up spending way too much time watching their ridiculous videos on Youtube.

K-pop is also perfect for filling up my recently boring days. It seems like there's always something new for me to discover. There are a million different K-pop videos to watch on Youtube. The K-pop world also moves really fast so there's always new news coming out daily. It's kind of filling the recent void I've been feeling in J-rock fandom (with a lot of amazing bands that have been disbanding, or losing their edge when they go from indie to major). J-rock fandom also tends to move slower and doesn't get as much media attention. I still love it, but it hasn't been particularly exciting recently. K-pop is definitely very new and shiny to me right now, much like how J-rock was back in the day. It's making me quite happy.

...I actually don't know how this entry became so long. Apparently I have a lot of feelings about K-pop, so I'll save you my rambling and end this entry here!
