I'm going to start updating about my winter vacation, but I'm going to do it in chunks because I did all of the things.

I'll start with Christmas Eve. Kiri and I started off the day by going to Otome Road and doing some shopping. Leslie met up with us later in the afternoon. We decided to go for a bit of a snack at Cafe 80+1. Our waiters were a bit quieter this time, but it was still nice. We squealed over how cute everyone was and I had a delicious salmon bagel sandwich. It's my goal to attempt to start conversations with our waiters the next time we go. After that we dropped by Patisserie Swallowtail to pick up the Christmas cake that I ordered. A little later we were walking down Sunshine-dori when all of a sudden a small, random Christmas drumline started dancing and playing up and down the street. Kiri and Leslie danced with them for a little bit (I couldn't because I had the cake) and then they marched away. Random, but awesome. We picked up the Christmas KFC that we'd reserved and met up with Anna when she got off of work. Then it was back to Leslie's apartment for a Japan style Christmas Eve celebration. We ate our delicious KFC and some drinks. Kiri made Johnny Appledrunks (aka Drunken Applejacks) for me and her. Then we did a Christmas gift exchange. It was a random present exchange, but we somehow each ended up with a present that was prefect. I got a cute black and white polka dot Peace Now scarf. We then colored the tiny ornaments that Leslie's mom sent. Then it was time for Christmas cake! That had to be one of the most delicious cakes I've eaten. It wasn't too long after that before we decided to go to bed. We spread out all of our blankets on Leslie's floor and went to sleep.

We woke up on Christmas morning and Leslie made us some yummy French toast. Then, I Skyped with my family back home and watched them open the Christmas presents I sent them. For lunch Leslie, Anna, Kiri, and I headed over to Akihabara and had shabu shabu. Leslie, Kiri, and I ate all the beef (four whole plates of it). It was so much deliciousness. We did a bit of shopping in Akiba after. I found a lovely Three Lights/Starlights doujinshi that I snatched up. (So many feelings about Sailor Stars.) We ended the day by having more cake at Leslie's and then Kiri and I went back to my place.

Christmas pictures~ )

It was definitely different, but Christmas in Japan was fun. Christmas Eve felt more like Christmas because that was when we did all the festive things. It was a little sad that Christmas itself didn't feel very festive, but overall I felt good about this holiday. It's been years since I've actually enjoyed Christmas, so a Christmas away from the sadness of the holiday back home appears to be what I needed.

I'm on my winter break right now and it feels great!

Thursday night was the bonenkai (end of the year, or literally "forgetting the year") party at work. The first part of my school's bonenkai was the annual bowling competition. I was on one of the all ladies teams with Akiko-sensei, Shono-sensei, and Obara-sensei. Our bowling scores weren't that great because none of us were particularly good bowlers, but we had fun anyways. We also shared a lane with the men's team from the English department, so we cheered each other on and gave high fives all around anytime someone did a good job. After the bowling competition was the actual bonenkai, with food and (of course) drinks at a nearby izakaya. They had us draw numbers as we entered the room to figure out where we'd be seated. I ended up being the only girl at a table full of male teachers. They were all very nice though and Ogura-sensei and Amagai-sensei were seated near me, so they were able to help translate any Japanese that I didn't understand. The food was good and because it's winter there was nabe (hot pot). Nabe is so yummy. After we'd eaten a good deal of food and people were tipsy, it was time for a bit of entertainment. They announced the winners of the bowling competition and the winners were given random prizes that were lovingly bought at Don Quixote (a huge chain of discount stores in Japan) by Kuroda-sensei and Takatori-sensei. Then, Kuroda-sensei and Takatori-sensei did an amusing two person comedy act poking fun at some of the teachers at our school. After that, one of the older teachers (who's name I've forgotten) did a rakugo performance, which was a bit difficult for me to understand, but the other teachers really seemed to enjoy it. There were a few speeches given after that by various teachers, the principle, and the vice principles. This seemed to signify the end of the party. At the very end, Shono-sensei pulled me in as back-up in a semi-drunken argument she was having with one of the PE teachers about whether you should go drinking with other girls if you already have a girlfriend. I have to admit, I was pretty amused. It was a fun night! I'm pretty sure that office parties in other parts of the world aren't nearly as fun and amusing as Japanese office parties.

Yesterday, Kirsten arrived in Tokyo! [livejournal.com profile] meepalicious, [livejournal.com profile] corvae_regina, and I met up with her in Ikebukuro last night. We also met with Zandra, another Tokushima JET, that Kirsten knows. We all went to an izakaya for dinner and had a good time eating, geeking, and chatting. Kiri gave Leslie and I couple's charms that look like cute little sudachi fruits because we're "the biggest lesbian couple" she knows. (We're not actually a couple, though she is the Hakkai to my Gojyo, Issac to my Miria, and Miria to my Issac. XD) We ended our night by taking purikura. Yesterday was a national holiday because it was the emperor's birthday, so we naturally had to include that in our purikura.

And now today is Christmas Eve. We're going to celebrate by getting KFC and a Christmas cake, like the Japanese do. We're also spending the night at Leslie's apartment, so we can all have Christmas together tomorrow. It'll be different, but I think it'll be a fun way to celebrate Christmas.

Managed to survive Christmas. Christmas Day itself wasn't too bad. Mom's family was surprisingly tolerable for most of the day. (It probably helped that Hayden is such an adorable little child.) I also got a bunch of nice presents. This year's presents included:

- A new digital camera
- Persona 3 Portable
- Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
- LM.C's Wonderful Wonderholic CD
- Inception DVD
- Sherlock Holmes DVD
- Gundam 00 Season 2, Part 1
- Glee, Season 1
- New headphones
- New black ankle boots (Also perfect for future Chane cosplay)
- Small black purse (Just the right size for a night out)
- New jacket
- Borders & Target giftcards

I spent a good chunk of free time today playing Persona on my PSP. It's a pretty fun game! I think it'll keep me amused for quite some time, or at least until I get to date Akihiko.

I unfortunately have to go get my wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow morning. I'm dreading it, cause I know it's going to hurt and I'll probably have trouble eating. Not really looking forward to being drugged up either. I hope it won't take too long for me to recover from everything.

Since I probably won't have time to make this entry tomorrow, here it is a little bit early.

Merry Christmas, everyone! Hope you have a great day. ♥

I am trying to look forward to Christmas. We'll see how this goes. For now, I'm going to go to bed, as I'm still attempting to correct my horribly wonky sleep schedule. G'night.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. Mine was fine. We had almost all of my dad's side of the family over at our house. The relatives from Indiana even drove in. It was really nice to see everyone, but there was almost this fake cheerfulness about everything. Like everyone was trying to be happier about Christmas than they actually were. I understand why they were doing it though. This past year has been pretty shitty for the family, and I'm betting that many of them weren't in a Christmas mood. I know I really wasn't.

I did get some nice presents though. I now have a DS (well, I will as soon as it arrives from Amazon)! I am excited! I want to go buy games! I got Re:Chain of Memories for the PS2 though. I got some DVDs, like Ouran, Gurren Lagann, and the last box set that I needed to complete my collection of FMA DVDs. I received quite a few bookstore giftcards, and some money (which I'm going to save as funds for Ohayocon). As far as books go, I got copies of Beedle the Bard, and House of Many Ways (another Howl's Moving Castle sequel). Of course, I was also given some clothing. And Gimmical Impact, the newest LM.C CD, that I am listening to while I write this. ^_^

My cousins Harmony ([info]melody1228) and Mariah, stayed at our house for the past few days. They left this morning. It was good to see them though! I always love getting the chance to catch up with Harmony, because we don't get that opportunity too often.

I really wish I had my copy of Havemercy at home with me, but I forgot it back at the dorm. And I've been itching to re-read it all week. *pout* At least I have plenty of other new stuff to keep me occupied.

Christmas was fine. I kind of can't believe that it's already over. I didn't ask for any big presents this year, so I mostly got a lot of smaller things. I got gift cards, clothes, books, DVDs (more of my beloved FMA and Firefly), and CDs (Rent soundtrack, Miyavi, and Gackt). I was happy with my presents (but I may return some of the clothes to look for ones that I like better). We went over to Aunt Georgene's in the morning, and then to Uncle Mike & Aunt Sarah's new house for Christmas dinner. It was weird not having Uncle Jim there when we were at Uncle Mike's house. It seemed more empty.

I feel somewhat out of it today. I've just been lazing around the house. I think I need to get out and do something.

Christmas was pretty good this year. I got quite a few nice presents. My favorite presents are my new Zune and my new stereo. My other favorite part about this Christmas was the fact that my relatives from Indiana came to visit. I got to see Harmony! :)

I'm really late with the Christmas update. I have no excuse, except that I am lazy.

So for Christmas some of the things I got were: LotR extended edition DVDs, LotR books, a new PS2, numerous Borders gift cards (yay), some CDs (soundtracks to anime & GoF), Finding Neverland DVD, some anime DVDs, lots of chocolate, and the inevitable clothes. I know there's more that I didn't mention, but that is the extent of my memory at the moment. Oh! The new Shoebox chapter made a great Christmas present as well!

As for the rest of the week, Tuesday night Lisa had a Christmas party at her house (a little late, but that's alright). Almost all of our friends were there, including Sam! (Sam moved about two years ago and now we don't get to see her as much.) It was very fun! We spent the whole party listening to Backstreet Boys CDs. Allison brought a foot and a half tall chocolate Santa. We hacked it into pieces with some kitchen knives and ate most of it. And DJ even gave a few lap dances.

The rest of the week I spent just generally lazing about. I read books, watched some movies, and played video games. How I've missed the PS2.

Tonight, I'm going to spend the night at Jessie's house. She's having a New Year's party for all our friends. It should be quite interesting.
