This past week has also been pretty low-key. Not a lot of assignments and not a lot of plans.

I finished reading Gail Carriger's Blameless on Thursday. Her books are always so lovely! They're fun and amusing and make me want to curl up with a nice cup of tea. I enjoyed BlamelessSpoiler spoiler spoiler ) I can't wait for Heartless to come out this summer. I tweeted that I had enjoyed the book and was looking forward to the next book, and Gail Carriger actually replied to me tweet and thanked me for the compliment! The fact that she had acknowledged my tweet pretty much made my day and I tweeted about that as well. She then replied to my tweet again and said she was glad to be of service. It put a smile on my face.

On Friday night I got together with [livejournal.com profile] immelmanturn. We hadn't had much time to hang out recently, so we had a lot to catch up on. She rented the projector from Collins and we watched Adam Lambert's concert DVD, projected on the wall of her apartment. And had all of the fangirling for about 12 hours straight (a lot of it about Adam, and Sara also shared some bandom stuff with me). We didn't get to bed at about 6 AM. I thought it was pretty impressive. We also baked cookies and failed at baking cinnamon buns the next day.

Had a nice long phone conversation with [livejournal.com profile] stellawind tonight, as it had been a bit since we'd last talked. It sounds like she's going to be visiting next weekend, so I'm happy! It gives me something to look forward to, amidst all the schoolwork that's going to start cropping up soon.

Saturday was a good day. DJ, Kala, Jessie, Kyle and I all met up and went downtown to Lincoln Park Zoo. It had been such a long time since I'd been there (my family normally goes to Brookfield Zoo, which is nicer, but more expensive). We were there for most of the afternoon and managed to see most of the zoo. My favorite part was the adorable meerkats that kept staring at us. DJ and I did decide that the zoo was a liar, however. There were supposed to be red pandas there and we could not find them, which I was disappointed about because red pandas are adorable. We have up our search though because it was time to meet up with Allison and Alyssa for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Because of unfortunate timing on Allison and Alyssa's part, we caught the dinner rush and had to wait for an hour and a half to be seated. It was so crowded, but luckily we were able to wait inside because it started pouring buckets of rain. The wait was worth it in the end. The Cheesecake Factory is always delicious. I had a chicken avocado club sandwich and chocolate mousse cheesecake for dessert. Mmm, the cheesecake was so good! I was so full by the end of the meal. By the time we walked to the train station (it had thankfully stopped raining) and waited for the train, I was tired. I napped for a good part of the ride home.

I haven't been doing much today. I watched the first episode of Sengoku Basara 2 (FUCK YEAH) and that made me happy. It's nice to have another series that I'm really excited about watching back. I've been watching some other stuff since DRRR!! ended, but haven't been super into most of it. I now plan on using the rest of the day to start reading Merrick, which I picked up at Borders yesterday. I was sick of not having any new books to read and I wanted a Vampire Chronicles fix.

I finally got my hands on a copy of Dragon Soul this past weekend! I finished reading it the other day, so here are my thoughts.

Spoilers for Dragon Soul inside. )

I'm excited because tomorrow I'm going to Miyavi's Chicago concert! I get to get up at the crack of dawn to wait in line all day, but it should be worth it. I can't wait to see him again~

So, it seems that the issue with my friends has been somewhat glossed over by many of the people in our friends group. There's still a bit of underlying tension, but things are better then they were at this point last week. Now, I'm just kind of waiting to see what happens next. Blah.

I finally got my copy of DIM, the GazettE's new CD, last week! alfkhjklghf I'm in love with it. Been listening to it constantly. It just reminds me all over again why they're my favorite band.

Saturday, I got to go see HBP again, but this time I got to see it in 3-D IMAX!  I would say about the first 10 minutes of the movie were in 3-D. It was very cool. I was just disappointed that more of the movie wasn't 3-D. It felt like a bit of a rip off. Luckily, the tickets had been free through my dad's work.

Yesterday, DJ and I went downtown, to Market Days up on North Halsted. Being on North Halsted pretty much puts the event in the center of Boystown, so you can imagine that the event was pretty fabulous. It was pretty much a big open-air market set up in the street. There were lots of vendors and food, as well as stages featuring musical entertainment. It was a lot of fun! My favorite part of the day was when DJ was being shamelessly flirted with by an attractive Latino man. XD

Today, I finally got the chance to finish my copy of Shadow Magic, the sequel to Havemercy. I greatly enjoyed it! Caius, in all his insanity, is totally my favorite. The Japanese influences in the story also made me so happy. It referenced a bunch of stuff that I learned in my Japanese history classes this year, including the story of Yoshitsune and Benkei! *insert me geeking out over Japan here*

Happy New Year everyone! I'm so glad 2008 is over. Summary of 2008: when it was good, it was pretty good, and when it was bad, it was really bad. I want to believe that 2009 will be better. C'mon 2009, don't fail me.

And now I plan to go spend the rest of the day laying around. DJ lent me his copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray, and I have been reading it. I'm about halfway through it right now. I'm really enjoying it, so I will probably spend part of today reading. I spend so much more time reading when I'm on break, because I feel like I actually have time to do it.

Things are back to normal.

So, on Friday night, I went with Meghan to pick up a copy of Breaking Dawn. Didn't really have time to read it until Sunday though.

On Saturday I went with Meghan and her family to Six Flags. It's been a couple years since I've last been there, so it was fun to go. At one pint during the day, we ended up waiting in line for three hours to go on the new Dark Knight ride. The ride was fun, but not worth a three hour wait. We went on the actual Batman ride at the very end of the day, after it had gotten dark. That was awesome. Batman is my favorite ride.

Been hanging out with DJ (and consequently Sarah and Savannah) for the past couple days. We've been catching up. I hadn't seen him for a few weeks because of his surgery. He's doing much better now though. We've mostly been going out for food and playing board games. Yes, I know it all sounds very exciting, but there's nothing like playing a nice game of Apples to Apples, or Cranium, every once in a while.
