I guess it's about time for an update. I did quite a few fun things over the weekend!
Saturday morning was pretty boring, but later in the day I met up with Kaille, Greta, and Leslie. We started off our evening by eating delicious okonomiyaki. It was our first time cooking the okonomiyaki for ourselves, so the waitress had to show us how to properly cook it on the grill. (orz) We ordered three different kinds of okonomiyaki and split in amongst ourselves. After dinner we went to karaoke! It ended up being kind of pricey because it was a Saturday night, but it was fun, so it was worth it. We started off with an epic rendition of "I'll Make a Man Out of You" and went from there. We sang a bunch of stuff, like the ever classic "Bohemian Rhapsody", some Beatles, some Backstreet Boys, "and Lady Marmalade". Greta and I also did a semi-decent job singing "Fantastic Baby" together. Gotta level up my skills to be able to rap as fast as TOP and G-Dragon in Japanese! We ended our night with some ridiculously adorable purikura.
On Sunday, I spent the day in Harajuku. I started off the morning by going to my haircut appointment at Sin Den. I'd been thinking about cutting my hair short for a long time (over a year), so I decided to just go for it. I'm very pleased with the results! I think it's cute and it's so much easier to deal with, especially in this gross summer heat.( 髪切った！ )
Afterwords I met up with Anna, Leslie, and Kaille at Harajuku Station. We grabbed lunch and spent a few hours wandering around, doing a bit of shopping. We stopped at Kinji for cheap secondhand clothing, and all of us were able to find something cute and cheap to buy there. Eventually we made our way to Putumayo and h.Naoto and looked at pretty things that we had no intention of buying. I did buy something at Closet Child though. They had a cute Sixh. dress that I tried on and ended up buying. When I got home, I noticed it still had the original tags on (I got it secondhand). The dress was originally almost 10,000 yen, but I got it for 3,000 yen. I love finding good deals at Closet Child!
I had a JET business trip this afternoon, but I was at my school this morning. Everyone was really surprised by my new haircut, but reacted positively to it. Two of the female teachers (Shono-sensei and Akiko-sensei) both asked me if I was okay and if I'd had my heart broken recently. (In Japan it's sometimes thought that a woman will get a drastic new haircut after going through heartbreak. It's pretty symbolic.) I had to tell them that I was fine and I'd really just wanted to get my haircut. I didn't tell them that I'm not heartbroken because I'm in happily in a relationship, but I wish that I could've so they wouldn't worry about me.
I also have a mysterious rash. It started last week, with a little bit on my legs that I thought was just a heat rash. Then a little more appeared on my stomach and lower back. Now it's spreading even more and sometimes it prickles. I was hoping it would go away on it's own and I wouldn't have to get it checked out at the doctor, but it looks like I should make an appointment. I don't know if I'll be able to go tomorrow, but I hope I can at least go on Wednesday. :/
It looks like I'm going to be meeting up with Saki after work tomorrow! I haven't seen her since I graduated IU and she returned to Japan, so it'll be good to catch up with her. :)
